A paradise for outdoor enthusiasts
If you’re a fan of nature, you’ll find a bunch of opportunities for outdoor recreation like fishing, boating and camping in some of the most gorgeous locations in the country. On campus, you can take a brief hike to the top of “A” Mountain or stroll through our Desert Arboretum Park. You’re also just minutes from Tempe Town Lake. But, if you want to see the true beauties of Arizona, we recommend these great spots for exploration.
The Grand Canyon
Arizona is home to one of the world’s seven natural wonders, the Grand Canyon. It’s a four-hour drive to the north. The canyon is great for sight-seeing, hiking, river trips, horseback riding and so much more. Learn more.
The Mogollon Rim
The Mogollon Rim (a two-hour drive to the northeast) offers numerous camping, hiking and mountain biking opportunities. At an elevation of 7,500 feet, “the rim” is a nice way to beat the summer heat. Learn more.
Superstition Mountains
Less than an hour’s drive east of Tempe, the Superstition Mountains are an exquisite display of volcanic mountain scenery with numerous lakes contained within the Salt River drainage. Another great spot for hiking. Learn more.
