Introduction to Patterson-Sullivan theory for hyperbolic manifolds

-
Abstract

Patterson in '76 (extended by Sullivan in '79 for hyperbolic manifolds) constructed an invariant measure associated to a hyperbolic surface. Via this measure one can relate analytical properties of the manifold to dynamical properties of its geodesic flow. This talk is an introduction to this construction (without assuming previous background on it) which is the prelude for a talk the week after.
