Career Stories in Actuarial Science

Abstract

This talk will go over how building connections/networking can lead to job opportunities. Jon Kiperman will discuss his personal path leading to his current role as a Medical Economics (MedEcon) Analyst, and how it differs from what others might do as actuarial analysts. Fernando Correa Chavez will discuss what steps he took while at ASU to obtain his current job as Senior Pricing Actuarial Analyst and grow his career. Questions from the audience are most welcome! 

Bios
Jonathan Kiperman graduated from ASU in 2021 after earning bachelor's and master’s degrees in actuarial science. He lined up a job with United Healthcare before graduating, and still works at the company today as a Medical Economics (MedEcon) Analyst. During his time at ASU, he was part of GIS @ ASU leadership for three years, and treasurer for two of those years. He also passed two actuarial exams while in school. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, traveling and has started getting into golf, although recently most of his time has been filled with wedding planning. 

Fernando Correa Chavez graduated from ASU in May of 2021 with his master’s degree in actuarial science. During college he worked part-time at Nautilus Insurance and continues there today as a full-time Senior Pricing Actuarial Analyst. During his time at ASU, he interned with two companies and was part of the Actuary Research Lab. He was also a member of GIS @ ASU and served as Diversity and Inclusion Officer during his last year. In his free time, he likes cooking, baking, traveling and hiking.
