Abstract

During the presentation, Dr. Dueck will recount her journey to becoming a biostatistician at Mayo Clinic. She will offer insights on building fruitful collaborations and delve into the narratives behind various projects that have shaped her career. The talk will also encompass details on clinical trial design and other statistical methods.  Finally, Dr. Dueck will discuss job opportunities in the mathematics and statistics fields at Mayo Clinic and similar institutions.

Dr. Amylou Dueck is an Associate Professor of Biostatistics and Vice Chair of the Department of Quantitative Health Sciences at Mayo Clinic in Arizona. She is an expert in the statistical analysis of patient-reported outcomes (PROs), adverse events, and tolerability endpoints in cancer clinical trials and has contributed to the development of PRO measures, including the PRO version of the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (PRO-CTCAE), a tool that evaluates symptomatic treatment side effects in patients enrolled in cancer clinical trials, and Myeloproliferative Neoplasm Symptom Assessment Form (MPN-SAF). Dr. Dueck is the Co-chair of the Health Outcomes Committee of the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology and Chair of the National Cancer Institute Moonshot Tolerability Consortium.

Dr. Amylou Dueck has been selected as the 2023 Natural Sciences College Leader by The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences has invited her to give the inaugural talk for the new Distinguished Alumni Lecture Series. The series showcases the successes of SoMSS' alumni, who make significant contributions to the mathematical, scientific and intellectual growth of the local and global communities. Their leadership and achievements inspire current students and alumni alike, and we are proud to have them as alumni of our school.
