Abstract

In this talk, we give introductory definitions for the continuous model theory of von Neumann algebras. We also provide some motivation for using model theory to study structural questions, most notably regarding the question of isomorphic ultrapowers of $II_1$ factors. Time permitting, we will broadly discuss some recent progress and open problems in the field. No knowledge of model theory is assumed.
