This Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) lunch will be a discussion with comments and questions welcomed throughout. I will begin by briefly describing my career path, current responsibilities as executive vice president of ASU’s Knowledge Enterprise, and research interests in evidence synthesis and health policy statistics. Then, based on over 30 years of experience in both industry and academe as a woman statistician, I will share five lessons I have learned along the way. Topics for discussion might include challenges faced by women in the mathematical sciences, leadership by mathematicians and statisticians, career choices, the job interview process, academic career advancement, success in undergraduate and graduate school, whether to pursue a graduate degree, and work-life balance trade-offs. Please come ready to engage – I look forward to seeing you there!
