Are you interested in improving inequities in mathematics? You can do MORE!
We are the Mathematical Organization for Rehumanizing Education (MORE), a student club at ASU. We host regular meetings for both graduate and undergraduate students to discuss articles related to (in)equity in mathematics/mathematics education and work on projects to address these inequities. In particular, we have a very special project we will be working on this semester. The MORE club has been awarded the Natural Sciences DEI Seed Grant to work on a multi-semester research project!!! This project is looking to expand the end of semester course evaluation survey for the mathematics courses at ASU to include questions pertaining to classroom inclusiveness. This is a wonderful honor for us as a club! Depending on your level of interest and availability, there may be opportunities for you to be directly involved in this project as a member of the club - but we will also continue with regular (probably every-other-week) meetings focused on reading and discussing DEI literature and issues. So, whether you have an interest in being involved in a grant-funded project and/or want to learn about issues of equity in mathematics education, we hope that you will join us on this journey to create a more inclusive learning environment!
We will have our first meeting of the semester on Thursday, February 10th from 5pm-6pm (MST) over Zoom (https://asu.zoom.us/j/84154371241). This meeting will just be for us all to introduce ourselves and establish our club goals for the semester. We will be holding all meetings throughout the semester over Zoom. Please see the attached flyer and the website below for more information. You do not have to be a math major – anyone can join!
