Students (and instructors) like breaks from school. But over academic breaks, students can forget things that they have learned, and that’s not good for anyone. In particular, students who take sequential courses (such as Calculus 1 and Calculus 2) need to stay fresh on requisite skills and understandings from the first course that they will need in the second course. In this talk, we’ll introduce you to a review program that was designed to address this issue. The Keeping in School Shape (KiSS) program uses text messages or email to provide students who are going into Calculus 2 with a daily Calculus 1 problem over academic break, including feedback, challenge problems, and solutions. Hundreds of students have voluntarily participated in the KiSS program over recent years, and we would like to share what we have learned from these experiences with you and invite you to be part of the KiSS program team.
