During academic breaks, many students lose fluency and confidence with skills they have recently mastered, which can lead to shaky starts in subsequent courses and extra reteaching by instructors. The Keep in School Shape (KiSS) Program tackles this challenge by offering short, daily math activities during breaks in a low-stakes, survey-based format. Participation is voluntary, yet hundreds of students consistently engage, especially when playful features like Wacky Wednesday, trivia questions, and motivational badges, are included. In this session, we will take you on a tour of the KiSS Program and highlight exciting findings about how students participate and persist during the daily activities, providing practical insights for fostering motivation and supporting skill retention over academic breaks.
