Biography

John Stufken’s primary research area is in statistical design and analysis of experiments. Designed experiments play a critical role in the scientific process and can help to establish causal relationships between variables, provide a better understanding of complicated processes, and improve the quality of manufactured products. His interests focus especially on identifying optimal or efficient designs for a variety of different problems and models by developing theoretical and computational tools. He is also interested in connections between design of experiments and both combinatorial design and sample survey design.

In addition to having published many research papers in leading journals, Stufken is co-author of an advanced book on theory and applications of orthogonal arrays, which play an important role in statistics, coding theory, and combinatorics. He is also co-editor of the "2015 Handbook of Design and Analysis of Experiments."
