Biography

Mark Reiser conducts research in the area of goodness-of-fit tests for models estimated on observed counts that follow a multinomial distribution. The goodness-of-fit test is one of the most common tests in statistics. If the data table contains cell counts that are small, common test statistics such as Pearson's chi-square may not follow the usual theoretical distribution. Reiser's approach to this sparseness problem has been to use orthogonal components of Pearson's statistic defined on lower-order marginals of the data table as test statistics. Reiser also conducts research on estimation of mixed models for longitudinal data when some data are missing not at random.  Missing data in a longitudinal study may result in serious bias in estimators for model parameters. Reiser uses a continuous latent factor model to jointly model the missingness.
