Recent discoveries in the structure of influenza have raised some questions concerning how well previous models describe the data. In addition, these discoveries have opened the door for research into a new area of influenza treatment. Using a basic model as a starting point, we develop a model that incorporates the recent findings and show that this improved model still fits data well, while also providing more information on within-host dynamics. By expanding this model further, we also explore the effectiveness of a new and potentially revolutionary treatment: defective-interfering particles.
