Modeling of Dynamic Graphene-like Beams with MEMS Applications

Abstract

In this talk, some analysis of dynamic pull-in voltage of a graphene-like beam model is presented. A lumped parameters spring-mass model is derived as an approximation of the nonlinear beam and a bifurcation analysis of dynamic pull-in for the lumped mass model is provided. The restoring force of the spring is based on the graphene constitutive stress-strain law and the driving force of the mass attached to spring is based on the electrostatic Coulomb force, respectively. The analysis is performed on the resulting nonlinear spring-mass model with initial conditions. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of periodic solutions are derived analytically and illustrated numerically. The results can be useful for design of MEMS beams of graphene-like materials.
