Abstract

How can students be introduced to K-Theory for C*-algebras without any experience in either C*-algebras or algebraic topology? This talk attempts to present an accessible yet accurate characterization of topics in non-commutative algebraic topology while only relying on basic notions from real analysis, group theory, and linear algebra. A secondary goal is to encourage undergraduate students to pursue higher-level research in functional analysis.
