MAT 275 – MODERN DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS – SPRING 2008

Note: The information in this syllabus may be modified during the semester at the instructor's discretion.

Changes will be announced in class.

Class Attendance: You are responsible for all material presented in the lecture.  

Homework & Quizzes :  Homework will be collected and graded.  Students may work together on homework, but each individual

student is required to write-up and turn in their own work.  No late homework is accepted.  Students are also responsible for reading

each section before it is taught in class. Weekly 10 min-long quizzes are given randomly. No make up.  The questions on the quizzes

will be obtained verbatim from the (practise and hand in) homework.

Exams: There will be two tests and a final exam.

Test 1: Thursday, February 14, through Section 2.3, at the Testing Center.

Test 2: Tuesday, March 25, Sections 2.4, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4 and 3.5.

Final: For the 9:15 - 10:30 class: Thursday, May 1, 7:40 – 9:30. For the 10:40 - 11:55 class: Friday, May 2, 10:00 – 11:50.

RESULTS (All Grades): 9:15-10:30, 10:40-11:55. The final grades of the class will be posted on ASU's grade pages soon.

Points: Final 25%, 2 midterms 50%, Homework and Quizzes 25%.

Make-up Tests: Make-up tests will NOT be given. Permission to take an exam at a time other then the scheduled one will be granted

at the instructor's discretion. These arrangements must be made BEFORE the date of the test.

Calculators: Graphing calculators which perform symbolic manipulations (e.g. TI89 and TI92) will not be allowed for tests

and quizzes.

Labs: The lab ECA 221 is reserved for us Thursdays at the regular class time. We will make an appointment

each time we want to go there and we meet in there. There are Linux computers working in the room. Here are

some useful M-files:

Computer Labs ECA 221 and ECA 225 hours: Mo-Th 6:30pm – 10:00pm, Sa, Su 2:00pm-6:00pm.

Remote access to the Lab is also possible. Instructions will be given.
