Homework Policy:
Written homework will be assigned daily and will be due weekly.
(The assignments links on this page
will always point to the current week's assignment, listing the daily
reading, homework problems, and additional problems for you to work on,
but not hand in.) Turn in your homework each Monday (except as
indicated) in class or in my mailbox (in 300 Bradley) before the
start of class. Neatness and readability will be reflected in your
homework grades; late homework will not be graded.
It's best to do the reading and exercises on a daily basis, not all the
night before they're due. This makes the lectures more meaningful,
gives you a chance to ask questions, and generally reduces stress.
Grading Scheme:
Homework: 20%
Exam 1: 20%
Exam 2: 20%
Final Exam: 40%
The Honor Principle:
On Exams: For in-class exams, no books or notes will be allowed; for
take-home exams, you are allowed to use only your own notes and the
textbook (no other books).
Students must not give or receive help from others during any exam.
Doing so will constitute a violation of the Honor Code.
On Homework: You are expected and encouraged to work together
on homework assignments, and to consult with me.
However, you must write up your solutions by yourself and
without outside assistance.
Disabilities:
Students with disabilities --- including chronic diseases, learning
disabilities, and psychiatric disabilities --- who will be taking this
course and may need appropriate accommodations are encouraged to make an
appointment to see me as soon as possible.
These students should also stop by the
Academic Skills
Center
in Collis Center to register for support services.
The Academic Skills Center also offers workshops and academic
counseling to all students with problems involving study skills.
