ABSTRACT

Title:  Stochastic neuronal models; historical and personal notes.

By:    Petr Lansky, Institute of Physiology, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic Prague, Czechia

Stochastic neuronal models belong to one of the most frequent application of mathematics in biology. This tradition lasts for almost a half of century. The aim of this effort is a better understanding of the code used in neural system to communicate among neurons or to convert an external signal into its internal representation.

The general principles of simple stochastic models will be summarized and mathematical problems connected with the models will be reviewed. An intuitive approach will be stressed throughout the talk.

keywords: stochastic diffusion process, first-passage-time problem, integrate-and-fire, intensity coding, compartmental models, selective interaction of stochastic point processes, simulation.
