AMS Resources
The American Mathematical Society has a nice listing
of various resources
for undergraduates. There is information on
careers,
graduate school,
journals,
conferences,
internships,
competitions,
and
special semesters
which includes studying abroad, among other things.
Special Programs and Career Help
The Math Department offers a number of programs
designed to prepare students for employment after graduation.
Below we list some of those programs, and then provide links
to several sites with career information for students majoring
in mathematics or statistics, and some general career information.
Special Programs
- Math Science Honors Program
Contact: (480) 965-1690 or mshp@asu.edu.
Deadline for 2007 applications: Friday, March 2, 2007!
- Actuary Program
Actuary is consistently one of the most
highly rated jobs in the country (according to the Jobs Rated
Almanac). The job is highly mathematical, and stature in the
profession is achieved by passing a series of exams. This program
prepares students to get a jump on these exams.
- • Career Day 2008: Friday March 28th 1:00-5:00pm in PSH 153. Please

- Statistics Program
The statistics program describes the
best approach to using a major in mathematics to study statistics.
- Cryptology Program
The fields of cryptography and cryptanalysis
have always been important, but have exploded with the emergence of
the internet. Large corporations, as well as the federal government
hire mathematicians to work on problems in cryptology.
- BAE degree
Leads to certification for teaching mathematics in a secondary school.
Students in this program are enrolled in the College of Education, but
take many of their classes like math majors getting a BA or a BS.
- SCISM
The Summer Certification Institute in Secondary Mathematics is a
summer program which allows students earning a BS to also become
certified to teach mathematics at a secondary school.
