How to install LaTeX for Windows platform
First of all be aware that LaTeX is available for free
distributed
with LINUX distributions. Use this nice Latex Editor "kile" to tex your program. If you haven't tried LaTeX on UNIX yet, try on any LINUX
machine in the Department. But if you still want to use LaTeX from WINDOWS,
here it goes ................

Follow these simple steps :-)

I tested these updated instructions with WIN NT, Win 2000
you should not have any problems with WIN 95/98/2000 !
Because I wrote the original instructions for WIN 95/98/2000 but for older
versions of WINEDT and MIKTEX.

REQUIREMENTS
* You have to be a valid user of the math server (math.asu.edu)
otherwise please contact us.
* PC with WINDOWS NT/95/98/2000 installed
* GHOSTVIEW already installed on your PC.
[To get ghostview]
* WINZIP should be already installed.
The following EASY way works if you intend to install Latex.
Alright lets get started and follow these simple steps.
- I assume that GhostView is already installed on your PC.
- Please download LateX and Winedt:
http://www.miktex.org/
http://www.winedt.com
- Transfer the directory LATEX and all the contents on your desktop.
- Right click on MikTeX-2.1.zip and click on EXTRACT TO FOLDER
C:\WINDOWS\..\MikTeX-2.1 .
Installation Part
You install MiKTeX with the help of MiKTeX Setup Wizard:

Make sure that no MiKTeX application is running.

Start the wizard (setup.exe) which is under MikTeX-2.1
directory.
You will presented with the welcome page:
Click Next> to go to the next page.

You now have to specify “Install” as the primary setup task:
Click Next> to go to the next page.

Choose the package set you wish to install:
Click Next> to go to the next page.

The packages will be installed from a local package repository,
i.e. a folder on your computer:
Click Next> to go to the next page.

You have the option to create a shared installation, so
that other users are able to use MiKTeX. Under Windows NT/2000, this option
requires administrator privileges.
Click Next> to go to the next page.

Accept the suggested installation path or enter your own
choice:
Click Next> to go to the next page.

Accept the suggested path to the local TEXMF folder or enter
your own choice:
You can check “No local TEXMF tree”, if you don't want to
use a local TEXMF tree. This is not recommended.
Click Next> to go to the next page.

You can choose, whether additional TEXMF folders should
be incorporated:
You can safely defer this decision, because you can subsequently
add additional TEXMF folders with the help of MiKTeX Options.
Click Next> to go to the next page.

You now have a chance to review the setup settings:
Click Next> to go to the next page.

The installation now starts and you see the following progress
indicator:
Click Next>, when the installation is complete.

You now see the last wizard page:
Click Finish, to close the wizard.
