Dr. Nikitin's research interests include: nonlinear control theory; applications of mathematical system theory in industry, business and management; calculus of variations and optimal control theory (in particular those parts of this theory that are connected with variational principles of mathematical physics and mechanics). He is also interested in algorithms, finite automata and machines from the point of view of designing digital control systems, adaptive computer programs, and control procedures for discrete event systems. His other interests include differential geometry, topology and Lie groups, especially their applications to physics, mechanics, signal processing and control.
