Dr. Mahalov's main areas of research are nonlinear partial differential equations, dynamical systems, and
scientific computing with an emphasis on fundamental mathematical problems in fluid dynamics
and geophysical turbulence. Significant applications focus on characterization of statistics and variability
of optical and clear air turbulence in the stratosphere. He has a joint appointment in the Department of
Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
