Dr. Jones is interested in characterizing and modeling the long-time behavior of nonlinear partial differential equations (PDE's) that arise in fluid mechanics and in ocean models. One challenge is to understand the dynamics of these PDE's under numerical approximation. He is also interested in the development of numerical schemes appropriate for simulating the solutions of evolution over large intervals of time.
