Department joins MSRI

Starting in 2006, our Department has become an Academic Sponsor of the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (MSRI) at Berkeley.

MSRI was founded in 1982 as a national and international center for the mathematical community. By becoming an Academic Sponsor, ASU is joining a long and distinguished group of institutions in providing an interface for MSRI and the academic community.

The prinicipal points of the relationship are:

  • Every summer MSRI organizes two programs for advanced graduate students. Each sponsor is invited to send two students, with expenses and a stipend paid by MSRI
  • MSRI provides partial funding of "MSRI Network" workshops and conferences.
  • Sponsors send representatives to an annual meeting to discuss the current scientific program and plans and initiatives for the future at MSRI.
  • Sponsors are eligible for free subscriptions to the MSRI preprint and book series as well as the MSRI Streaming Video collection.
  • Sponsors are encouraged to invite MSRI members to give colloquium talks. MSRI will subsidize travel expenses.

Our current liasion person is the Chair, Dieter Armbruster. Please talk to him for details of spons orship program.
