To ensure students are using the most recent version of a Graduate College form, please download forms directly from the Graduate College Web site.
Please note the current graduate Program of Study and Course Changes to a Graduate Program of Study forms are available on the registrar's Web site. These forms should only be used by students who filed a program of study prior to March 1, 2006. All programs of study filed after that date must be done using the iPOS (interactive program of study).
iPOS Information: All graduate programs of study are filed using MyASU. The Graduate College has an informational guide to assist you. Once you have submitted the iPOS, your advisor will need to email their approval of your iPOS to (grad@math.asu.edu). When you initially file the iPOS, you have the option to list your entire committee or advisor only. Once it is approved by the Graduate College, you should go back to MyASU to add the rest of your committee members if you have not already listed your entire committee. Your advisor should indicate approval of your committee members by e-mail to the graduate office (grad@math.asu.edu).
Teaching assistantships in the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences are awarded by April 1 each year for the following academic year (fall and spring semesters). These positions are highly competitive, with many more applicants than there are assistantships available.
Teaching assistant applicants must either speak English as their native language or have a paper based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 600 or an Internet-based TOEFL score of 100. Criteria used in making awards include academic records, letters of reference and demonstrated ability in English, as measured by the TOEFL. All international students with teaching assistantship positions must take the ASU-administered Speaking Proficiency English Assessment Kit (SPEAK) upon arrival to ASU and pass it within the first two semesters of their arrival for continued financial support. International students are encouraged to take the International Teaching Assistant Seminar Course.
Differential stipends are employed to reward and encourage students as they progress through their degree programs. The base stipends for master's and doctoral students are fixed at the levels set by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
For administrative purposes, a student's level in any given semester is based on their status at the end of the previous semester.
Limited summer support is available in the form of teaching or assisting positions during the five-week and eight-week summer sessions pending budgetary approval.
In addition to the information above, see the Graduate College T.A./R.A. handbook for important information regarding your position.
