Mathematics Placement Testing InformationAll students enrolling in College Algebra (MAT 117), Finite
Mathematics (MAT 119) , College Mathematics (MAT 142), Stretch
College
Algebra (MAT 194), Stretch College Mathematics (MAT 194), Precalculus
(MAT 170), or Brief Calculus (MAT 210) must write
the Unified Placement Test. Being placed in the mathematics course
appropriate to a student's
background and knowledge is very important for success at ASU. The on-line placement test requires your ASURITE-Id and password. This information was included in your application confirmation letter. If you have questions about your ASURITE-Id please contact ASU Computer Accounts www.asu.edu/computeraccounts (480)965-1211. If the placement test system appears to be down or not working at all, please check for outage information at www.asu.edu/systemstatus or contact ASU Help Desk www.asu.edu/it/helpdesk (480) 965-6500. You will need to click through several pop-up windows to get to the actual test. These are necessary to ensure that your score and ASURITE-Id are encrypted while traveling through the web. Once you click the submit button, you will immediately obtain your score. In addition, you will receive information regarding how your score relates to potential success in the relevant First Year Mathematics courses. You may print out this page. You are encouraged to discuss your result with an academic advisor in the event that your score indicates you should take a different course from the one you initially wanted to take. Taking the UPT is required for the First Year Math courses listed above, and must be taken in the appropriate time window for a given semester (see below). Time Window: Scores on the placement test are valid for
one year for purposes of registration. For additional information or if you have any questions please call the Undergraduate Mathematics Office at 480-965-7195, or send e-mail to placement@fym.asu.edu. |
