MAT 211 Online - Mathematics for Business Analysis

Spring 2009

Prerequisites and Placement: Students MUST have completed one of the following with a C or better: MAT 210, MAT 251, MAT 265, or MAT 270. A strong foundation of basic calculus concepts such as differentiation and integration is vital for success in MAT 211.

Purpose: This is the second of two courses (the first being MAT 210) specifically designed for students planning to apply to the School of Business.

Testing Center: Most course Evaluations for MAT-211 on-line are conducted on-line. Before you assume this makes them easier, please consider that every student receives different but equivalent problem sets for evaluations (progress checks and tests) and students are seldom asked to regurgitate homework problems. Should written evaluation be required, they will be in the ASU Math and Statistics Testing Center at the Tempe Campus or an off-campus testing facility located by the student and approved by the instructor. Tutoring:

  1. The Math Tutor Center: Free Math Tutoring is available on the Tempe campus through a partnership with University
    Academic Success Programs. Hours of operations are available at their website.
  2. The ASU Learning Support Service (LSS) (also free of charge) provides counseling, tutoring in math (and many other subjects), supplemental instruction, and other types of support to students. Check with them for scheduled sessions and locations.
  3. On-line Tutoring may be available at various times of the day. To see the hours you can use this resource, check your announcements area in Blackboard.
  4. Instructor Virtual Office Hours (VOH’s) are available for this course. Check these hours in Blackboard also.
  5. Instructor Office Hours: For those on-campus in Tempe, the instructors maintain regular office hours. Check for them at your instructor's website.

On-line Work: All work is accomplished on-line.

Calculator: You should have a TI-83+ or TI-84+ calculator for this course. Some homework assignments and exam questions may require using certain features of the TI-83+/84+ that do not exist on other calculators. Calculator workshops are scheduled on campus. Calculators with QWERTY keyboards or those that do symbolic algebra such as TI-89's, TI-92's, Casio FX2 or 9970G's cannot be used during exams and usually provide little additional support. Course Schedule: Search for MAT 211 on-line sections at classsearch. Please note there is a strict capacity for this course. The instructor does not generally allow overrides for capacity.
