MTE 181 - Theory of Elementary Mathematics
Spring 2008
- Prerequisites and Placement:
MTE 181 is a continuation of MTE 180. MTE 180 is the prerequisite for the class.
- Purpose: MTE 181 emphasizes the study of intuitive geometry
and measurement. An emphasis is placed on cooperative activities in which
students discover the basic concepts through guided use of manipulatives.
MTE 181 is intended for prospective elementary school teachers and some special
education teachers.
- Suggested Syllabus: Syllabus
is just a suggested syllabus. Your instructor may use a
different syllabus. Check with your instructor.
- Testing Center: The Mathematics Testing Center is located in PSA-21 (basement).
For exams given there you will need your ASU SunCard to be admitted.
The hours are M-Th 8 am to 8 pm (last test handed out at 6:30) and
Fridays from 8 am to 5 pm (last test handed out at 3:30 pm). You can find more

- Tutor Center:
The Math Tutor Center is located In PSA-116.
You can get help with MAT 113, 117, 119, 142, 170, 210, 211, 251, and MTE 180 and 181.
This is free, quality tutoring to all ASU students registered in those math classes.
However, you must bring your SunCard . There is more information at

- Calculator: There is no official or preferred calculator for
the course, but you are required to have a graphic calculator. If you need to
buy one, you may consult with the instructor. This link gives some help with
