Major Objectives of Chapter 12: Measurement

o describe the measurement process;

o identify units of measure in the English system and in the metric system;

o convert units within the English system and in the metric system;

o calculate the perimeters and areas of basic figures;

o calculate the surface area and volume of rectangular prisms and cylinders;

o explain how to use the formula for the area of a rectangle to find the area of a parallelogram, trapezoid, and circle;

o explain how to find the surface area of a rectangular prism then use that explanation to find the formula to find the surface area of a cylinder; and

o explain how to use the formula for the volume of a rectangular prism to find the volume of a cylinder.
