Objectives of Chapter 4: Number Theory
Students will be
able to:
o
use
a calculator or other techniques to find the multiples and factors of a number;
o
use
simple divisibility rules to determine if one number is divisible by another;
o
identify
when a number is prime and when it is composite;
o
find
the prime factorization of a number;
o
use
prime factorization to find the LCM and GCF of a pair of numbers;
o
identify
some useful classifications and relationships involving prime and composite
numbers;
o
choose
a key number theory theorem and show how deductive reasoning can be used to
verify the theorem
o
explain
what is means for one number to be a factor of another; and
o
explain what it means for
one number to be a multiple of another.
