MAT 211 - Mathematics
for Business Analysis
Spring 2008
- Prerequisites and Placement:
Students must have passed MAT 210 (Brief Calculus) with a
C or better in order to register for MAT 211. A strong foundation of
basic calculus concepts such as differentiation and integration is vital
for success in MAT 211.
- Purpose: This is the second of two courses (the first being MAT 210)
specifically designed for students intending on applying to the School of
Business.
- Suggested Syllabus: Sample
Syllabus
& Homework Sets
is just a suggested syllabus. Your instructor may use a
different syllabus. Check with your instructor.
- Testing Center: The Mathematics Testing Center is located in PSA-21 (basement).
For exams given there you will need your ASU SunCard to be admitted.
The hours are M-Th 8 am to 8 pm (last test handed out at 6:30) and
Fridays from 8 am to 5 pm (last test handed out at 3:30 pm). You can find more
information at Testing
Center Information.
- Tutor Center:
The Math Tutor Center is located In PSA-116.
You can get help with MAT 113, 117, 119, 142, 170, 210, 211, 251, and MTE 180 and 181.
This is free, quality tutoring to all ASU students registered in those math classes.
However, you must bring your SunCard . There is more information at
Tutor
Center Information .
- Webwork:
Some courses may use WeBWork, an online evaluation tool.
The homework problems can be put on the web and students
enter answers to them
on the web. Students may try to answer webwork problems more than once. After
each try, a message appears telling the students whether the answer is correct or not.
This allows students to find out what they did wrong and hopefully better understand
question. In order to use WeBWork you will need a computer with access to a web browser
(Netscape is recommended) It can be either your own or one in any of the ASU computer labs.
You can login to webwork at Webwork.
- Calculator: You are required to have a TI-83+ or TI-84+ calculator
for this course. Some homework assignments and exam questions may require using
certain features of the TI-83+/84+ that do not exist on other calculators.
If you need to buy one, you may consult with the instructor. Calculators
with QWERTY keyboards or those that do symbolic algebra
such as TI-89's, TI-92's, Casio FX2 or 9970G's cannot in general be
used in class or during exams. This link gives some help with graphing calculators:
