Employment Opportunity for Assistant Professor

Environmental Fluid Dynamics

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Arizona State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level beginning in the fall semester of 2008. Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in the Mathematical Sciences or a related field with a research emphasis in Environmental Fluid Dynamics by August 14, 2008. Candidates must also have demonstrated potential for excellence in research and teaching at all levels and appropriate professional service. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research and publish in the area of Environmental Fluid Dynamics, provide quality teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses in applied mathematics, fluid dynamics and related fields, and participate in on-campus interdisciplinary activities in, for example the Environmental Fluid Dynamics Program, Global Institute of Sustainability, High Performance Computing Initiative, and School of Earth and Space Exploration.

Arizona State University, a Research One Institution, is the Second largest U.S. University with over 51,000 students at the Tempe campus. It is located in the rapidly growing metropolitan Phoenix area, which provides a wide variety of recreational and cultural opportunities. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics currently has 51 full-time faculty members and over 80 supported graduate students. Excellent computing resources are available in the department that includes individual faculty workstations as well as access to the University's central computing facilities and the Fulton High Performance Computing Initiative.
